FIREPLACE MAKEOVER

by simply adding shiplap and new tile we were able to completely transform this focal point of our family room... and we LOVE it!

Step 1: Measure the length you'd prefer your 'shiplap' to extend. For example, we used 66' Tri-Poly Underlayment boards cut to fit.

Step 2: Decide how you'd like to trim out the sides. I knew I wanted the side trim to reflect the existing trim that was already there so I bought 5' Selex pre primed boards from Home Depot and cut to fit once home.

Step 3: Secure all boards in place. I used my Ryobi battery operated nail gun with 2' nails to secure in place

Lastly: Caulk, Paint & Style! Seriously that easy!

We love it so much and what a difference it has made. I already had some nails on hand and paint so this project only costed me $32! As always, I saved all my scraps and extra paint for future projects because I love a quick project like this one. Literally took me 2 hours from start to finish.

TILE: We did hire out a few weeks later to a close family friend to tile for us. Luckily since it was simply just slab pieces on our fireplace surround we were able to just tile right over the top! Saved a ton of cash on demo and made it so much faster!

We chose 2" marble herringbone tile by Allen + Roth from Home Depot. They cost $13 per sheet and makes the tiling process quicker since they aren't individual tiles. I also saved the extra cuts in case anything happens and we need to replace any or the future owners of our home needed them. Always a good idea!

This area of the family room also gets lots of natural light so it sparkles almost all day long and just has the prettiest, clean look which we love! My favorite tile yet!

If you're looking for a first time beginner project, simply adding faux shiplap has to be the easiest project you can do. Literally anyone can do it AND Home Depot will even cut the wood down to size for you. Crazy easy. If you try this, please let me know!
